But the landlady had seen this before.
Just weeks earlier, a young bride named Alice Burnham had stayed at her boarding house. She too had drowned… in the bath… shortly after marrying a man named George. The names were different – but the man was the same.
She wrote to Scotland Yard.
That single letter would unravel one of the most chilling cases in British history.
