Working life on Musbury Heights pre-dates the 1850’s and quarrying continued until sometime around the 1930’s.

The stone was used to create the sets (cobbles), curbs and flag stones for properties in and around Haslingden, Helmshore and even as far away as Burnley from all accounts!

The stone was removed from the quarry on trams or carts and transported down the hill and around the Holden Vale Reservoir where it was then transported to the nearby Grane Road sidings.

In this video, we also cover the sad story of John Holden, a foreman of the quarry who sadly lost his life in 1906 after being involved in a truly horrifying incident.
