Loading

In 2007, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, were brutally attacked in a park in Bacup, Lancashire, simply for the way they looked. Targeted for their alternative appearance, they were set upon by a gang of youths in an unprovoked and senseless act of violence.

While Robert survived with severe injuries, Sophie tragically lost her life after spending nearly two weeks in a coma.

Her murder sparked nationwide outrage and led to important discussions about hate crimes and intolerance.

This is the story of that one moment in time.
