In this video, I was joined by Daft Monkey as we walk around the infamous Angel Meadow, a place aptly named “Hell upon Earth” by Friedrich Engels after he spent some time frequenting the area back in 1845.

A place where it’s said upto 40,000 paupers are buried beneath the now partly covered flag stones and park land. A place which was overrun by scuttlers whose reign of terror was as even more threatening than the rats, cockroaches, fleas and the many diseases which took so many lives – such as cholera and tubercolosis.

Simply put, Angel Meadow was England’s most savage of slums.
