In 1871, the mysterious death of four-year-old Samuel Hutton in Tottington sent shockwaves through the community. The boy had died from sulphuric acid poisoning, a horrifying and deliberate method that pointed to foul play.
But this tragedy wasn’t the first to strike the Hutton household—two other children had died in previous years under suspicious circumstances.
The grim coincidence led to whispers of a dark connection between the deaths. Speculation mounted over whether James and Elizabeth Hutton, Samuel’s parents, could have been involved.
However, a lack of concrete evidence left the case unresolved.
