A body in the water. A missing ring. A mystery hidden beneath the surface.
When the drowned body of Arthur Bell is pulled from the dark waters of Slate Lodge, police quickly catalogue his few possessions. His coat. His purse. His watch chain. A handful of damp coins.
But something is missing.
Days later, a gold ring engraved “M.W.R. & Co.” emerges under mysterious circumstances. It should have been in Bell’s possession. It wasn’t.
So where was it?
And more importantly… who took it?
As Detective Sergeant Edmund Cryer and Detective Constable Arthur Mallory begin their investigation, they find themselves following a trail that stretches far beyond the lonely waters of Slate Lodge. Every witness seems to know less than they should. Every answer leads to another contradiction. And somewhere in the shadows, someone appears determined to keep the truth buried.
Join Edmund Cryer in Part Two of The Edmund Cryer Journals as he attempts to uncover what really happened to Arthur Bell—and why a missing ring may hold the key to everything.
