In today’s video, we look into the early beginnings of a tradition that seems to have been long forgotten in some parts of the world – The Mummers or Mummering.
The tradition of wearing horrific looking masks and disheveled clothing seems to have disappeared and been replaced with more colourful and vibrant outfits. Even the tradition of entering a neighbours home and doing chores in return for food or money has vanished. But away from the fun, joyous festivities, there was a darker side to this kind of past time.
